Facts & Secrets About Dublin

Spire of Dublin

Miguel B

The Spire of Dublin was chosen from a large number of submissions in an international competition by a committee. Its construction started in 2002 and was completed on 21 January 2003. Also, the Spire of Dublin is known as the World's tallest sculpture.

Below there's a short gallery showing images of the construction of the Spire in Dublin.

The Spire of Dublin, also known as the Monument of Light, is a monument measuring 121.2 m (397.6 ft) and located in O'Connell Street, Dublin.

The monument was commissioned as part of O'Connell Street layout redesign in 1999, due to the proliferation of fast food restaurants and bargain shops in the area; the destruction in 1966 of Nelson's pillar following a bombing by former IRA and after the Anna Livia monument was moved to another location to make way to the Spire.
