Facts & Secrets About Dublin

Clontarf Promenade

Miguel B

The Clontarf promenade, in Dublin 3, streches three kilometres from Fairview Park to Dollymount.
This walk was landscaped in the 1950s and it's very popular among lovers of outdoor walk, run and cycling.
Along the promenade you will find sculptures, such as a Maoi sculpture from Chile, and the quiet Bull Island with its beautiful beach, a popular location for sea sports and kite surfing.

Traffic Light Box Artworks in Dublin

Miguel B

Over the next days and weeks, the Traffic Light boxes in Dublin will experience an invasion of colour!

If you've been in Dublin for a while, you will have seen some traffic light boxes painted randomly, such as this one below:

The good news is that more boxes are being painted currently! Watch out!

Well done, Dublin :)

The Dodder Rhino

Miguel B

You won’t find many Rhinos in Dublin outside Dublin zoo, but there's a place where you will see a Rhino in the wild.

If you have a walk by the River Dodder, among the fish and birds you will also see a Rhino! Of course this is a statue, made of bronze :)

This rhino was installed overnight in 2002 and it can be found next to the local pub the “Dropping Well”, in Churchtown, Dublin.

As to why there’s a rhino in there, nobody seems to know...

Miguel B

The sand sculpture exhibition at Dublin Castle has gained a reputation as one of the summer attractions in Dublin.

In its 15th year, the sand sculptures will be on display from August 3rd to 27th. The entrance to see the sand sculptures is Free and the grounds are open during daytime (until 7pm aprox.).

Here are some pics from this year's exhibition. Enjoy!

Ranelagh Gardens

Miguel B

In Ranelagh, Dublin 6, you will find this little park. It's mostly used by locals and full of ducks swimming in its little pond.

Below you will see some pictures of this little gem. The nicest spot is the beautiful entrance, right below the bridge for the Ranelagh Dart stop.

According to history, the first hot air balloon flight in Ireland happened in this park in 1785. The man responsible for this was Richard Crosbie, from Wicklow.
